Authentic BIDJARS are woven in Persian Kurdistan, a mountainous undeveloped province of IRAN which is inhabited largely by KURDS of various tribal groups. They live a rural lifestyle, speak a different language and are devout practitioners of the SUNNI branch of Islam rather than the SHIA branch prevalent throughout Iran. These are important factors in making the Kurds almost like a separate country within the country. An interesting effect of these socio-economic issues is that BIDJAR Oriental rugs have always had an extremely favorable quality to value ratio compared to any rugs woven in Iran. Bidjars have a truly unique construction unlike any other rug woven in IRAN or the Middle East. The wefts are literally hammered down and produce a very tough, dense and finely woven carpet which has been dubbed "The Iron Rug of The East." BIDJAR Oriental rug designs and colors have not been affected by Western design or decorating influences. As such, they preserve a rich cultural heritage with a special place in the Oriental rug world. Our collection includes rugs and carpets from the most important weaving villages of Helvai and Tekab. The BIDJARS on this page are a just a sample of the rugs found in our showroom. You will be amazed that we sell rugs of such beauty and pedigree for such unbeatable prices. George Grillo
